When I lived in Bergamo, I often took the train to Milan. Travelling on public transport shows you all sorts of things. If you really want to know the world, you should use public transport to get around.
One late evening, I was in a half-empty carriage, and this couple was sitting next to me. Something was going on with them, or maybe just with her.
In the photograph, she seems lost in thought, her gaze apparently unfocused. She is standing, while he’s sitting. He is touching her coat, seemingly fiddling with one of its buttons. He is trying to reach her, to maintain a link between them. Maybe he’s holding on to her, or pulling her towards him.
Somehow, this photo reminds me of a film still.
